Just a few miles from Natural Bridge Caverns is another amazing natural wonder: The Bracken Bat Flight, and for a limited time we are offering the opportunity to witness the evening emergence of the world's largest bat colony. First, though, you'll have a very different, but equally spectacular experience at Natural Bridge Caverns. Choose a package that includes our Discovery Tour, featuring our largest and most breathtaking formations. Located on 30 acres close to the intersection of FM 1101 and Kroesche Lane, it is the only drive-in theatre within a 150 mile radius of New Braunfels.
Open year-round, patrons will enjoy watching bright digital projection from the inside of their own car or outside in lawn chairs. But, unlike the traditional drive-in theatre sound, which was piped through a speaker box outside the vehicle, patrons now tune their FM stereo to a specific frequency.

Built in 1878, is Texas’ oldest continually operating and most famous dance hall. By design, not much has physically changed since the Hall was first built. Advertisement signs from the 1930s and 40s still hang in the old hall and around the stage.
Taking advantage of its convenient New Braunfels location, just minutes from hotspots like Gruene Hall and less than a mile from River Road, the Whitewater Amphitheater is well integrated into the community and its existing riverside landscape, the ONLY venue bordered on two sides by a “year round” creek.

Live Music Venue, Open-Air Non-Smoky Environment, Huge Patio, Full Bar, Cold Drinks, Hot Food, Great Beer Selection, and Lots of Live Music!
Originally established in 1871, The Phoenix Saloon was the first bar in Texas to serve women. It had a beer garden with a bell in a tree for service… as it would besmirch a lady’s reputation to enter the bar. There was an alligator pit and badger fights, live music on Saturday nights, and a parrot on a perch inside the front door taught to say “Have you paid your bill!?” in German. In 1894, proprietor of the back room cafe, William Gebhardt, invented chili powder, devising the first process to crush and dry fresh chilis. Prohibition closed the Phoenix Saloon in 1918, though for a couple more years the basement served as an illicit brewery, with tunnels cut to run the drink out under the streets of downtown. In 1922, the building was expanded into its present configuration. Turned into a department store, with a refrigerated water fountain that was always proudly nonracial and unsegregated, it remained little changed into the 1990s. In March 2010 after 2 years of bruising renovation, the Phoenix rose again as an historic Texas bar, chili parlor and New Braunfels live music venue.
With an indoor and outdoor bar, daily happy hour and drink specials, and New Braunfels live music 7 nights a week, it’s no wonder the Pour Haus was voted the Best Bar in New Braunfels. The characteristics of “work hard and make good progress” defined the city of New Braunfels at its founding over 165 years ago. These principles were augmented by a devotion to civic involvement and family celebration.
As with most settlements in the New World, the culture in the town of New Braunfels became a mix of old and new. The German founders adapted to their new surroundings, deriving influence from Mexican, Indian, and African culture. With each generation, new layers of culture and tradition were woven into the fabric of this little “burg.”
Though much has changed from 1845 to today, the core principles set forth by the founders—hard work, progress, civic pride, and family devotion—have remained a steadfast way of New Braunfels life.
“This is a free land and the poorest is regarded and respected as the richest. Here no one has a priority. The respect of persons considers each persona as the next. However, he who does not want to work should not undertake the trip, but who wants to work and will work, will fit in very well and make good progress.” — letter from Nicholas and Anton Riedel, May 11, 1845
