CEMEX using less blue gold

A local company is doing their part to conserve one of the world’s most precious resources.

Cemex has taken steps to use a dramatically reduced amount of water at its wash plant at the Balcones quarry near New Braunfels. The international company has completed a new water recycling system that will reduce the plant’s water usage by 90 percent.

“Water is used by Cemex during the production process of cement, ready-mix and aggregates, as well as for other processes,” said Scott Ducoff, Cemex USA regional president for Texas and New Mexico. “We recognize the importance of water to local communities, like the 2 million local residents and businesses in and around New Braunfels. We are mindful of the very real water issues this area faces in connection with its continued population growth.”

This photo features the historic and majestic Founder's Oak: "Prince Carl of Solms Braunfels, Commissioner General of ‘The Society for the Protection of German Immigrants of Texas,' came to the area in March 1845 and signed a deed for two leagues of land, which included Comal Springs and Founders Oak. Thus was born New Braunfels."

The District's demographer, Bob Templeton, presented an update during the February board meeting. Did you know that more than 1,600 new homes closed in Comal ISD during 2016? We can expect an increase of approximately 5,600 students during the next 5 years due to the rapid growth in our district.
