CISD constructing new schools to meet growing student population

Enrollment figures continue to set records for the Comal Independent School District.

To meet the demand, the district is giving itself a little more space this week with groundbreakings for two new middle schools.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Middle School No. 6, which will be built on Hubertus Road west of Interstate Highway 35, was held Tuesday morning. Officials will break ground for Middle School No. 7 in the Kinder Ranch Development west of U.S. Highway 281 at 10 a.m. this morning. Both campuses will accommodate 1,150 and are set to open for the 2018-2019 school year. The schools are part of the $147.4 million bond issue that Comal ISD voters approved in 2015. The cost to construct both campuses is $94 million.

Imagine Google Earth street view, but from the center of the surface of the Guadalupe River. A new virtual river navigation tool allows people to explore the Guadalupe River, from Canyon Dam to downtown New Braunfels, directly from their smart phone, tablet, or computer. The tool includes a tagging system for specific sites along the river, so users can find and mark favorite areas and location-specific tips for tubing, fishing, and paddling. The application, created through a partnership between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries, the Water Oriented District of Comal County, and the Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, is available through the FishViews water navigation program at the link below. FishViews has also mapped the Comal River, Blanco River, San Marcos River, and Spring Lake.
