Great News for Comal County

Comal County Commissioners Court cleared the way Thursday morning for a new business to move into the part of Schertz in the county, bringing with it the promise of at least 100 new jobs.

The county agreed to give something to get something in the deal.

Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a property-tax rebate deal with the parent company of Advance Auto Parts for a warehouse distribution center to go into Schertz. The eight-year agreement is contingent on Advance Stores Company Inc. investing $32 million in capital improvements and more, County Judge Sherman Krause said.

“They have to hire 100 employees with a total payroll of between $2.4 million and $2.5 million,” he said. “They have to sign a 10-year lease for the property. It’s an eight year agreement.”

The company must sign the agreement within 23 days of the commissioners’ vote, Krause said. And the business has a couple years to begin working out of the facility.

The numbers are in, and Comal County is now the sixth-fastest-growing county in the United States, with a Census-estimated population of about 135,000. The only two counties that grew faster between 2015 and 2016? Our neighbors Kendall and Hays counties.
