Great News for Comal County

Comal County Commissioners Court cleared the way Thursday morning for a new business to move into the part of Schertz in the county, bringing with it the promise of at least 100 new jobs.

The county agreed to give something to get something in the deal.

Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a property-tax rebate deal with the parent company of Advance Auto Parts for a warehouse distribution center to go into Schertz. The eight-year agreement is contingent on Advance Stores Company Inc. investing $32 million in capital improvements and more, County Judge Sherman Krause said.

“They have to hire 100 employees with a total payroll of between $2.4 million and $2.5 million,” he said. “They have to sign a 10-year lease for the property. It’s an eight year agreement.”

The company must sign the agreement within 23 days of the commissioners’ vote, Krause said. And the business has a couple years to begin working out of the facility.

Imagine Google Earth street view, but from the center of the surface of the Guadalupe River. A new virtual river navigation tool allows people to explore the Guadalupe River, from Canyon Dam to downtown New Braunfels, directly from their smart phone, tablet, or computer. The tool includes a tagging system for specific sites along the river, so users can find and mark favorite areas and location-specific tips for tubing, fishing, and paddling. The application, created through a partnership between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries, the Water Oriented District of Comal County, and the Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, is available through the FishViews water navigation program at the link below. FishViews has also mapped the Comal River, Blanco River, San Marcos River, and Spring Lake. tours.fishviews.com/public/guadalupe-river#0
