Craft Breweries & Tours Around New Braunfels

Hill Country Craft Beer Trail - New Braunfels is your gateway to explore the Texas Hill Country. Taste a blend of tradition and innovation in craft beer with a selection of both New Braunfels breweries and hill country craft brew establishments. Full & Half Day Guided and Shuttled Tours available.

Faust Brewing Co.
 - The Faust Brewing Company has been open to the public since 1998 in New Braunfels, Texas, a small town renowned for its authentic German heritage and culture. The German prowess of beer drinking and beer making is legendary, and The Faust Brewing Co. continues the tradition with its original and varied line of ales. Don't forget, you can stay here too! The brewery is housed in the historic Faust Hotel, which has a unique flavor of it's own.

Guadalupe Brewing Co.
 -  Inspired by Beer focused trips to Europe and the US Pacific North West, a dream was born back in 2009. After home-brewing, graduating from Siebel's Brewing Technology program and hands on brewing in a Colorado brew pub we opened our business in 2011. Our passion and focus: Providing the best quality beer available adding local ingredients whenever possible such as our Honey from an Amish community in Beeville and Wheat from Marion, Texas . Our heart: Stewardship in the form giving part of our proceeds to projects directly impacting Texas such as our funds to the Bee research program at Texas A&M and sustainability of Texas Wildlife. Owned by Native Texan Keith Kilker and his Wife Anna we toast to the great state of Texas. Prost!

New Braunfels Brewing Co. - The reincarnation of our New Braunfels Brewing Company started as a dream in 2010. Through struggles and triumphs we have now gotten our stride in the industry.  We make primarily wheat beer with a few sours thrown in.  When we first got in to this business, we had no idea how much of a creative outlet it was going to be and have cherished that side of the craft beer business.  You will get to know us through our elemental series that focuses on five of the elements, our experimentals that came from a what if idea and brewed into something more, and our fundamentals which are the experiments that graduated to a more permanent status based on our fans’ reviews.  We’ve located our nano-brewery in historic downtown New Braunfels  for a reason.  We are native New Braunfels-ites and plan to stay that way.  We love the New Braunfels community and want to be a central part of it.  We approach our brewery project as a labor of love. Our beers are designed to reflect our community, refresh your palette and be a heck of a lot of fun.  Come down and visit us whether it is for a tour or a tasting during one of our “Hoppy Hours” in the Das Lokal tap room. We believe that beer and life should be enjoyed and savored. That’s why we take a line from one of our favorite bands and say, ‘Here’s to Life!’.

Wineries & Tasting Rooms Around New Braunfels

Dry Comal Creek Vineyards - a small boutique New Braunfels wine producer. We make small lots of wine and try to produce the best from those wines that they are capable of attaining. We do not make a French-style wine. We do not make a California-style wine. This does not mean our wines are not good, it means that they are different.

The Grapevine in Gruene - a New Braunfels wine tasting room located in Gruene Historic District featuring New World wines and one of the largest selections of Texas wines available. Step up to our bar to enjoy complimentary tastings daily. We sell wine by the glass or bottle with discounts on wine by the case. In addition, we carry craft beers on tap, wine accessories and decor and "Tasty Bites" are offered Thursday through Sunday. Relax with your favorite wine on our scenic front porch or in our outdoor garden and patio.

Long Shot Wine Bar & Tasting Room - Longshot Premium Wines prides itself on the high quality of wine we sell. The name “Long Shot” Is derived from the owner/founder’s life experiences. Whether it was getting into a natural point of aim in precision rifle school or standing barefoot in the Highlands of Scotland, he has always been a mercurial sensualist that has been chosen to take the “Long Shot.”

Blue Lotus Winery - Born out of our love of fine wines, Michael and Melissa Poole have created the premier fine wine location in Central Texas. After traveling the world and sampling different wines and meads, head wine maker and owner Michael Poole decided to make his way back home to Texas and bring the world of great tasting wine with him.

La Cruz De Comal - produces only authentic Texas wines from Texas Hill Country grapes and offers true Texas Hill Country "terroir": Texas grapes; fermentations on natural yeasts; and no additions of acid, sugar, grape concentrate, powdered tannins, artificial coloring agents or sulfites. Our passion embraces the age-old concept of "regionality" where food, wine, and agriculture are concerned.  In a word, it is real wine.

Water 2 Wine - Don't settle for plain old "wine store" selections. Enjoy the ultimate wine experience with us. Water 2 Wine is an actual operating winery where all of our wines are fermented on site. We buy grapes from only the finest vineyards. With access to more than 100 wines from 13 countries, we satisfy your cravings for world class wines. Try it before you buy it at Water 2 Wine, where all of our wines are available for tasting every day!

Movie-goers can experience a variety of cinematic options, in New Braunfels.

Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre

Bringing back a nostalgic American past time, Stars & Stripes Drive-In opened April 2, showing digital first-run, double features nightly on three screens. Two of the screens measure over 90 feet wide and are the largest movie screens in Texas. Located on 30 acres close to the intersection of FM 1101 and Kroesche Lane, it is the only drive-in theatre within a 150 mile radius of New Braunfels.

Open year-round, patrons will enjoy watching bright digital projection from the inside of their own car or outside in lawn chairs. But, unlike the traditional drive-in theatre sound, which was piped through a speaker box outside the vehicle, patrons now tune their FM stereo to a specific frequency.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Cold beer, hot movies, and delicious snacks and meals; The Alamo Drafthouse is dinner, drinks, movies and events, all under one roof. Our attention to detail in film presentation and programming has made us a second home to movie fans all over the planet and earned accolades from the likes of Entertainment Weekly (#1 theater in America), (Coolest Movie Theater in the World) and (One of the Best Theaters in the Country).

Innovation is at the heart of everything we strive for, so in addition to maintaining the latest and greatest in projection technology so that every show features crisp, bright digital or 35mm presentations with booming surround sound, we also program repertory titles and special events you won't find anywhere else. Enjoy a break from our "no talking" policy by yelling out your favorite lines at one of our Quote-Along events. Pull out your cell phone and openly mock the movie you're watching with texts that show up on the screen at HeckleVision. Or just enjoy slumber party classics like Dirty Dancing or Clueless back up on the big screen in an auditorium filled with like-minded fans at our monthly Girlie Night presentations.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the calendar and choose a show to come visit soon. You'll immediately understand why audiences the world over consistently write to us and let us know that we've completely spoiled them and ruined other movie theaters forever.

New Braunfels Live Music

Concert Venues

Gruene Hall
Built in 1878, is Texas’ oldest continually operating and most famous dance hall. By design, not much has physically changed since the Hall was first built. The 6,000 square foot dance hall with a high pitched tin roof still has the original layout with side flaps for open air dancing, a bar in the front, a small lighted stage in the back and a huge outdoor garden. Advertisement signs from the 1930s and 40s still hang in the old hall and around the stage.

Whitewater Amphitheater
Taking advantage of its convenient New Braunfels location, just minutes from hotspots like Gruene Hall and less than a mile from River Road, the Whitewater Amphitheater is well integrated into the community and its existing riverside landscape, the ONLY venue bordered on two sides by a “year round” creek.

Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre
The cultural experience that is breathing life into downtown New Braunfels and has its audiences dancing in the aisles is beckoning you. As we enter our fourteenth season, the Brauntex Theatre is offering an expanded scope of programs with some enchanted evenings which are artistically superb and entertaining. Every show at the Brauntex promotes family and social entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Lazy L&L Dance Hall
A great open-air facility that's a family oriented place where you can hang out with friends, meet new ones, or just sit back and enjoy the band while watching others dance.  Doors open @ 7PM for the Grill & Bar; the band is from 8PM to midnight.

River Road Ice House
River Road Ice House is the birthplace of the Texas Music Compound, where musicians Dub Miller, Bleu Edmondson, Doug Moreland, and our beloved and much missed friend Billy Applegate once lived and had many song swapping evenings under Texas moonlit nights. These impromptu performances opened doors to the movement that was growing up in our back yard. Those in attendance were given a memorable treat of singer/songwriting talent that has become a legend.

Billy's Ice
Live Music Venue, Open-Air Non-Smoky Environment, Huge Patio, Full Bar, Cold Drinks, Hot Food, Great Beer Selection, and Lots of Live Music!

Phoenix Saloon
Originally established in 1871, The Phoenix Saloon was the first bar in Texas to serve women. It had a beer garden with a bell in a tree for service… as it would besmirch a lady’s reputation to enter the bar. There was an alligator pit and badger fights, live music on Saturday nights, and a parrot on a perch inside the front door taught to say “Have you paid your bill!?” in German. In 1894, proprietor of the back room cafe, William Gebhardt, invented chili powder, devising the first process to crush and dry fresh chilis. Prohibition closed the Phoenix Saloon in 1918, though for a couple more years the basement served as an illicit brewery, with tunnels cut to run the drink out under the streets of downtown. In 1922, the building was expanded into its present configuration. Turned into a department store, with a refrigerated water fountain that was always proudly nonracial and unsegregated, it remained little changed into the 1990s. In March 2010 after 2 years of bruising renovation, the Phoenix rose again as an historic Texas bar, chili parlor and New Braunfels live music venue.

Museums & History

From the virgin prairie, they built a town but their spirit filled it with life. Their traditions, costumes, mores & beliefs imbued it with faith, pride, industry, & laughter. We are what we are, today, because of them. Let us carry on their spirit! — Everett Anthony Fey

Gruene Texas

Gruene itself has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, and many of the buildings that were rescued by Molak and Nalley have been awarded a Texas medallion from the Texas Historical Commission. It has also been recognized by the Texas travel industry as a premiere attraction for visitors, which is no surprise to its merchants and guests. Step back in time with a stroll along our Historic Gruene Walking Tour.

Even with the remarkable growth of this once sleepy little town, the main focus of Gruene is, and continues to be, bona fide Texas. Everything from the wares they sell to the music they play speaks to Molak and Nalley's commitment to preserving the authenticity of Gruene and providing its guests with an experience that has the signature seal of the Lone Star State.

Surrounded by the beauty of historic buildings, both great and small, Downtown New Braunfels is also the seat of the city and county governments and the heart of the community.

Step back in time with a stroll along our Historic Walking Tour.

The oldest bakery (Naegelin’s) and the oldest hardware store (Henne) in Texas are located here. Many citizens call downtown home. Their apartments are located on the upper floors of recently renovated historic buildings.

Spearheading an aggressive redevelopment has been the focus of the 40-plus-year-old Downtown Association and the 21-year-old Main Street Project. Active participants in this endeavor are business and building owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and residents.

Ten blocks of Seguin Avenue from underpass to underpass and ten blocks of San Antonio Street meet at the beautiful Main Plaza with its historic fountain, bronze sculptures, music pavilion and beautifully landscaped grounds. Here is where the parades pass, the Christmas “Festtage” season begins, concerts are held and dignitaries are honored.

Welcome to the home of NFL players, State Champions, Pro Baseball Players, Olympic coaches, and sports enthusiasts. New Braunfels is happy to carry on great sports traditions; swim meets that date back to the 1960’s, volleyball tournaments going strong for over 30 years, golf events that range from small to over 1000 have been hosted here for 38 years, Softball and Baseball tournaments, and many more. Some unique events such as golden glove boxing, pool, nine pin bowling, and Skat (German card game) tournaments.

Sporting roots began in 1855 with the founding of the Turnverrein (athletic club) which combined exercise with socializing.  Sports were not limited to physical exercise but include the oldest continually operating shooting club in the United States – the New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein.  Even during war, when ammuniztion was scarce, the competitions continued with only two bullets per participant.   Needless to say, sports competitions of any kind run deep in our area; they are not limited to school participation and still hold a vital place in our culture.

Water Recreation

Dive in to New Braunfels. There might be other places that have as many uses for water as New Braunfels does, but we don't know any. New Braunfels has Schlitterbahn, a world class water park, and two clear, clean rivers wind through town - the Comal and the Guadalupe - and Canyon Lake is just minutes away.

Slip into your bathing suit and go fishing, rafting, kayaking, skiing, tubing, or swimming. Check out Texas Ski Ranch where you can practice wakeboarding without  boat! Jump in to Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, rated America's best water park, featuring 65 acres of water slides, tube chutes, three uphill water coasters, a wave pool, inland body boarding, children's play areas and lots of other ways to keep cool.

Tour lovely Landa Park on a miniature train, view the Comal Springs - the largest springs in Texas. Enjoy the cool wonderful spring fed pool at the park Aquatic Complex.
